Early 20th century, uncut, human skull. No mandible. This guy was brought into the shop by a customer. The history on the piece is pretty clear. The man's Grandfather (from South America) was getting ready to go to medical school, but didn't have the money to purchase needed supplies. He worked as a grave digger and told his boss he needed to get a skull, but couldn't afford it. His boss pointed to an area in the grave yard and told him to go dig one up, so he could complete his studies. I am assuming it came from a pauper's or unknown's grave. His Grandfather dug it up and cleaned it and went on to be a physician. It was finally passed down thru family. It appears to have been sealed in some way, but it displays very well.
